Bitrate math (short)

Rough video bitrate ≈ (target_bytes × 8 / duration_seconds) − audio_bitrate. Leave a little headroom for the MP4 container so you do not overshoot the cap.

Prove a compressor does not upload

  1. Open DevTools → Network.
  2. Drop a video on the page and start encode.
  3. You should see the encoder/WASM assets load — not a multi‑MB upload of your media file.

On Shrink Clip, encoding stays in the tab. See also browser video compression and privacy.
