How to compress a video for Instagram Reels
Instagram’s documented ceiling is about 4 GB, but Reels and Stories under ~10 minutes often stall or fail above roughly 650 MB. Creators hit that practical cap more than the paper limit.
This preset is a free Instagram video compressor aimed at ~650 MB so the upload finishes. Crop to 9:16 first if the source is landscape. Nothing is uploaded to Shrink Clip.
If you only post Stories from a phone that already re-encodes, you may not need 650 MB — use Custom or TikTok 72 MB for a much smaller file that still looks fine on a phone screen.
How to compress a video for free
Three steps. The encoder runs on your device, so private clips never sit on a server.
1
